Current qualifying routes include job creation, investment in scientific research, support for arts or cultural heritage, qualifying non-real-estate collective investment funds, and qualifying investment in a Portuguese company subject to employment conditions. Pathway overview
Portugal’s Residence Permit for Investment Activity (ARI) is an investment-linked residence route for eligible third-country nationals. Current qualifying routes include job creation, investment in scientific research, support for arts or cultural heritage, qualifying non-real-estate collective investment funds, and qualifying investment in a Portuguese company subject to employment conditions. Real-estate investment does not qualify.
Portugal’s Residence Permit for Investment Activity (ARI) allows eligible third-country nationals to obtain residence through qualifying investment activity. Current routes include creation of at least 10 jobs; at least €500,000 for scientific research; at least €250,000 for arts or cultural heritage; at least €500,000 in qualifying non-real-estate collective investment funds; or at least €500,000 to establish or capitalise a Portuguese company subject to the applicable job-creation or job-maintenance requirements. Real-estate investment does not qualify under the current ARI regime.

Application process
Submit the application electronically through AIMA’s ARI Portal with the required documents and payment of the applicable DUC. AIMA reviews the application and, once accepted, proceeds with the required scheduling and processing.
